Obituary

Virginia Hughes Kaminsky, 92, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was born in New York City on June 30, 1919 to Edith Remont and Frank P. Hughes, the eldest of six children.
She had worked in publishing for many years at Harper's Magazine, McGraw-Hill and the World Press Review, as well as in international relations at the Committee to Defend America by aiding the allies during World War II, the United Nations Association and for Clyde Eagleton at NYU's Graduate School of International Affairs.
Together with her husband, Max Kaminsky who died on September 6, 1994, she had written a book about his long career in jazz, published in 1963. She also edited "The Civil War Letters of Richard T. VanWyck: A War to Petrify the Heart" in 1997.
On moving to Wiccopee in 1981, she became a member of Melzingah Chapter, NSDAR, the East Fishkill and Fishkill Historical Societies, the Fortnightly Club of Fortnightly-on-Hudson and St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.
She leaves two brothers, Frank Hughes Jr. and James H. Hughes. Three other siblings, Robert L. Hughes, Howard L. Hughes and Elizabeth Neilson, all died in 2005. She also leaves many dearly loved nieces and nephews, her beloved Daly cousins and aunt, as well as two very special stepsons, Samuel Kaminsky of Boulder, CO and Matthew Kaminsky of Boston, MA.
