Milford CT – Virginia Hayes Lombardi, age 92, passed away on September 3, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 30, 1930, in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of James and Phoebe Hayes.
For over 20 years, Virginia was employed as Payroll Manager at Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers in Maryknoll, NY. She was a member of the Police Athletic League in Westchester, and was past President of Parents Without Partners for many years in Westchester County, NY, running activities and publishing newsletters. She vacationed in Milford her entire life and bought a summer/weekend home there prior to retiring. When she retired she moved permanently to Milford and took a part-time job that she also retired from at Congregation Or Shalom in Orange CT.
She was active and very social her entire life and spent much of her life dancing, from dancing in the famous line of female precision High Kick dancers, the "Roxyettes" at the Roxy Theater in NYC to Gay Foster, a traveling dance troupe to dancing jazz in nightclubs. Whenever she saw a dance floor she could not stay seated, she was always the first one on the dancefloor and stayed there till the night ended. Even up until today she was attending exercise classes at the gym with her gal buddies. She was very proud of her Irish heritage. She loved to travel and go out to eat. Italian food was one of her favorite cuisines and she loved going to Gabriele's in Orange, CT. Virginia loved to go to the theater, see shows, take day trips with her gal pals and go on vacations and cruises with her family. Her Family was everything to her and she was happiest when spending time with her family and friends, her beloved "Milford gals." She spent every holiday with her family at her daughter's home in NY and also celebrated holidays with her son-in-law Rocco's family, who welcomed her with open arms.
She was known as Ginny to many when she was younger and throughout her early life. Her nieces and nephews still lovingly call her Aunt Ginny.
Virginia is survived by her loving daughter Annie Monaco Cacciatore and her husband Rocco; her cherished grandchildren Rocco Cacciatore III and Christina Cacciatore; her son-in-law Rocco's siblings Laura (Jim) and children Lucas and Erin, and Helen (Billy), and son Rob, Danielle (Keith), and son Jake as well as beloved nieces Andrea and Lisa and nephew Bill, her great nieces and nephews and her wonderful friends, the "Milford gals."
She was pre-deceased by her son John Monaco in 1993.
There will be a Celebration of life for Virginia on Sunday, October 23rd overlooking her beloved beach, 107 East Broadway, Milford CT
