Virginia McGroarty, 84, an area resident for 20 years and formerly of Yonkers and the Bronx, died on December 21, 2022 at home.

Born in Washington Heights, Manhattan on September 2, 1938, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Hannon) Devine. Virginia had worked as an insurance rater for Travelers Insurance. An avid fan of the New York Yankees, she truly loved her grandchildren more than anything..

Virginia is survived by her children, John McGroarty, Maureeen (John) MacDonald, and Tara Phillips; her grandchildren, Corey and Stephanie McGroarty, Daniel Esposito, Kyle and Savannah McGroarty, Sean MacDonald, Rhiana Esposito and Dylan MacDonald; her great-grandson, Hudson McGroarty; and her brother, John "Jackie" Devine and his wife Jane. She was predeceased by her parents; her partner of 30 years, Thomas Murphy; her son, Kevin McGroarty; and her sister, Mary Pat Devine.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
