Obituary

Virginia Eleanor Stotz, a longtime area resident for nearly 70 years and formerly of Peekskill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 92.

Born on October 4, 1933, in Peekskill, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth L. and Estelle (Clark) Gage and was raised there.

Ginny attended nursing school and began her career as a registered nurse at Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla. She later met and married her beloved husband, Bruce Stotz, on February 21, 1959, in Westchester County. Together, they made their home in Wappingers Falls, where she continued her nursing career at Vassar Brothers Hospital for a few years. During that time, Ginny and Bruce also built, owned, and operated the Wappingers Falls Trailer Park. Over the years, they went on to acquire, renovate, and manage several properties in the area-building not only a successful livelihood, but a life rooted in hard work, partnership, and shared accomplishment.

Ginny found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved reading, gardening, and spending time on her computer-remaining impressively tech-savvy well into her 90s. Above all, she will be remembered as a phenomenal baker. Nothing made her happier than being in the kitchen, creating something special to share with those she loved.

She was a constant, loving presence in her family's life-steadfast, caring, and supportive in every way. If you asked how she was doing, she would almost always smile and say, "I'm fine," even on the hardest days-a quiet testament to her strength, resilience, and enduring spirit.

Ginny is survived by her daughter, Wendy Smart and her husband, Christopher, of Wappingers Falls; her grandchildren: Meghan Stewart and her husband, Charles; Caitlin Smart and her husband, Justin Crawford; Ryan Smart; Adam Smart; William Stotz and his wife, Stephanie; Shannon Bernacchia and her husband, Joshua; and Samantha Stotz; as well as her cherished great-grandchildren: Collin, Jaxon, Chloe, Daniel, Noah, Aiden, and Madison. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Ginny was predeceased by her husband, Bruce Stotz, on September 19, 1994; her son, William Bruce Stotz; and her six siblings: Kenneth Gage, Robert Gage, Janet Swarner, Georgianna Cassese, Lawrence Gage, and Alan Gage.

Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
