Virginia
Young
November 4, 1944 – July 31, 2025
Virginia "Ginnie" Young, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 31, 2025, following a courageous journey through cancer.
She was born on November 4, 1944 in Franklin, New Jersey to Rev. George S. and Mrs. Virginia Daumann Christian where her father served as the pastor of a Presbyterian Church. She graduated from high school in Pompton Plains, New Jersey in 1962, then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1966.
In 1967, Ginnie married the love of her life John Young. Together they raised their two children, Christian and Amanda, in LaGrangeville, New York. Ginnie's pride and delight in her children and grandchildren-Anthony and Nicholas-shone through her stories and prayers.
A born encourager and lifelong learner, Ginnie poured her energy into education and social work. She began as an elementary school teacher, blessing countless students for over 21 years with her warmth, humor, and creativity. After earning her Master of Social Work from Adelphi University in 1987, she continued her calling as a social worker for the Wappingers Central School District, where she became a trusted advocate for middle school students navigating life's challenges.
Ginnie's faith in Christ was the center of her life. She brought joy and compassion to every circle she joined-whether leading Christ Care small groups, serving in prayer ministry at Hopewell Reformed Church, encouraging women through Aglow International, sharing her heart at Tres Dias retreats, or participating in the Reformed Church in America's women's ministry programs. She lived her faith out loud: vibrant, prayerful, welcoming, and full of laughter.
Those who knew Ginnie will remember her as a vibrant soul, full of spark and spirit whose contagious joy was rooted deeply in her trust in God. She saw people, loved them fiercely, and drew them closer to Christ by the way she lived.
Ginnie is survived by her husband John of 57 years; her children Christian (Marcella) Young and Amanda Young; her cherished grandsons, Anthony and Nicholas; and her sister, Faith Schoon (Eugene). She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Virginia Christian.
A service of celebration and thanksgiving for Ginnie's life will be held at Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, NY, on Saturday, August 9, at 11:00 AM , with a reception to follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hopewell Reformed Church in her memory.
