Vivian D. Ebe, 91, a resident of Poughkeepsie since 1956 and formerly of New Milford, NJ, died on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Wingate at Beacon.
Born in Jersey City, NJ on April 17, 1922, she was the daughter of Ahlert and Dorothea Kidnea Holscher. Vivian was employed as a bookkeeper for Vassar College for 15 years until her retirement in 1978. She was an active volunteer with the Girl Scouts of Dutchess County and a member of the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church Women's Organization. An expert knitter, she won thirteen blue ribbons at the Dutchess County Fair in the Domestic Division. She also loved to bake, especially banana bread, and was an avid garage sales hunter.
On June 7, 1946 in Elton, MD, Vivian married Raymond E. Ebe who survives at home. She is also survived by her daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Clark DeTraglia of Union Vale, and Susan and Allan Abolafia of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Erica DeTraglia and husband Douglas Ford of LaGrangeville, Michael Abolafia and wife Amy of Philadelphia, PA, Alicia Nace and husband Kyle of LaGrangeville, Adrienne DeTraglia of Hartsdale, Aaron Abolafia of Poughkeepsie, and Daniel Abolafia and wife Meg of Rye; and her great-grandchildren, Amelia Ford and Zack Abolafia. She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Smith and niece, Barbara Swain.
Private funeral services will be held with interment in the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, 2381 New Hackensack Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., Hopewell Junction.
