Obituary

Walter John Buchanan, 77, a resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of Bronxville, died on March 15, 2020 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in the Bronx on February 8, 1943, he was the son of Walter Edward and Helene (Flynn) Buchanan. Walter proudly served our country in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Patrolman with NYPD after 25 years of service.

Walter was a parishioner of St. Columba Church. For 23 years, he had volunteered with the Hudson Valley Ride for Kids to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, including 10 years as a Co-Task Force Leader. He also served for 4 years as a Director for GWRRA Chapter S. He also volunteered at the Bronx VAMC. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #707 in Southern Westchester, and the Blue Knights. Walter was a snowbird, spending his winters in Punta Gorda, FL.

On November 30, 1963 at Sacred Heart Church in the Bronx, Walter married Linda Durgin who survives at home. He is also survived by his sons, Michael Buchanan and Kevin Buchanan and his wife Einat; and his granddaughter, Ayla Buchanan.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 11:30am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
