Schmitt, Walter Bernard, 69, a resident of Dutchess County since 1968 and formerly of Woodlawn, died on Monday, November 14, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New York City on September 22, 1942, he was the son of Arthur and Frances Seegars Schmitt. He was employed as an Engineer for IBM, East Fishkill. Walter was a parishioner of St. Denis Church, Hopewell Junction and a member of St. Mary's Council #4065, Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed sports and music and was an avid fisherman.
On May 5, 1962 at St. Barnabas Church, Woodlawn, Walter married Judith Ann Kiely-Schmitt who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughters, Lesa Schmitt-Foster of Poughquag and Laura Anne Kiely Kukreja and her husband Sunil Kumar of Tacoma, WA; her grandchildren, Levi Walter Foster, Margeaux Judith Foster, Araya Raj Kukreja and Ananya Raj Kukreja; his son-in-law, Steven J. Foster, the devoted father of Levi and Margeaux; his siblings, Artie Schmitt of Port Chester, Audrey Zallo of Harrison, Joseph Schmitt of Cortlandt Manor and Frances Caldarardo of Armonk; and many devoted godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:30am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction.
