EAST FISHKILL – Wayne R. Ennist, a lifelong local area resident, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. He was 77.
He was born in Poughkeepsie on December 25, 1944. Wayne was raised in Millbrook but has resided in East Fishkill for the last 45 years.
He was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, having been honorably discharged in 1966. For many years, he worked for I.B.M. as a computer programmer and belonged to the Quarter Century Club, retiring in 1993. He then went to work for the Wappingers Central School District, where he was a bus driver and also served as head custodian.
Wayne loved music and was a skilled drummer who played in many local bands. He was a life member of the Green Haven Fish & Game Association in Fishkill whose hobbies included gardening, fishing, and classic cars. He was an avid New York Jets fan and also enjoyed attending Marist Red Foxes games. Whether it was cooking holiday meals or working on the pool, Wayne was a genuine "family man" and cherished spending time with his family & friends, most especially his wife, children, and grandchildren.
On May 29, 1976, he married Diane Shutowich at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction. His devoted and loving wife, Diane, survives at home in East Fishkill.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Tara English & her husband Christopher of Fishkill; his son, Corey Ennist & his wife Sarah Abrignani of Fishkill; his grandchildren, Conor and Fiona English; his siblings, Valerie Burdick & her husband Gary, Victor Holmes, Lyn Holmes, and William Holmes & his wife Peggy; his aunt, Simone Townsend; his brothers-in-law, Paul Shutowich & his partner Rosemarie Khuns and Terrance Raymond; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives & friends.
Wayne was predeceased by his mother, Phoebe Townsend; and two sisters-in-law, Debbie Shutowich and Jane Raymond.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 15 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. Immediately following the visitation, a memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
