Werner A. Schanzenbach, 87, a resident of Hopewell Junction for many years, died peacefully on August 2, 2016 at The Fountains in Millbrook.
Born in Stuttgart, Germany on July 3, 1929, he was the son of Adolf and Fanny Nufer Schanzenbach. Werner was a 1946 graduate of Irvington High School, and then earned his Bachelors Degree from Montclair State Teacher's College and his Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin (both in Mathematics). He also proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed with IBM in Poughkeepsie for 33 years until his retirement in 1990.
Werner traveled to Italy, Mexico, and across Canada and America. He enjoyed chess, photography, foreign films, music and gourmet cooking. For years, he sang Barbershop with the Poughkeepsie New Yorkers Chorus and Chord Sharks Quartet.
Werner was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Marianne Rowell, in 2000. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Suzanne and Donald Chambers of PA, Erich and Jane Schanzenbach of Dover Plains, Karyn and Patrick Ruddy of FL, and Diane and John Bianci of NJ; his sister, Doris Yamarick of OH; 7 grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
