FISHKILL - William J. Brown, Sr., a local area resident since 1961, died on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 83.
Son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Hogan) Brown, he was born in Yonkers on December 11, 1933. In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country for several years until he was honorably discharged in 1960.
He worked for Grand Union Co. in Mt. Kisco for 38 years, retiring in 1996. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion.
On August 27, 1958, he married Eileen McDermott in Yonkers. She predeceased him on March 22, 2006.
William will be remembered for his unshakable strength of character, limitless compassion, and warped sense of humor. His was a life well-lived, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his children & their spouses, Eileen & Jerry Mishk of Walden, Kevin & Bente Brown of Montgomery, Bill & Debi Brown of Beacon, and John & Joanie Hartney of Arizona; his grandchildren, Jennifer Kurisko (Jared), Kimberly Mishk, Erin Zaczkowski (Adam), Adam Brown, Rebecca Lally (Shawn), and Anne Wildey; his great-grandchildren, Anthony, Adriana, Noah, Ashley, Mackenzie, Grace, Sophia, Patrick, and William; and many other relatives & friends.
In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by his parents as well as two siblings.
Calling hours will be held from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 1 at the funeral home, followed by entombment in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
