William J. Fitzgerald, of Fishkill, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. He was 68.
He was born on March 23, 1945 and raised in the Highbridge section of the Bronx by his parents, the late Maurice and Esther (nee McGrath) Fitzgerald. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
In 1971, he married his wife of 42 years, Diane (nee O'Brien) at Sacred Heart Church in the Bronx. Together, they moved their family to Wappingers Falls in 1978, and to Fishkill in 1994.
He worked for Con-Edison for 38 years, retiring as shift manager in 2007.
Bill enjoyed spending his time poolside with his large, extended family and his beloved dogs.
In addition to his loving wife, he is also survived by his three daughters, Kristine McCarthy (Kevin) of Farmingdale, Caren Fitzgerald of Hoboken, NJ, and Anne Sferlazza (Michael) of Astoria; his two granddaughters, Molly and Emily McCarthy; his sisters, Maureen Martin, Eileen Valenzano; and his brother, Jack Fitzgerald. Bill is also survived by many loving and supportive nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
He will be reunited in Heaven with his sister Diana O'Connell and his parents.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 17 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 18 at St. Mary's Church, Our Lady of the Falls, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, where the U.S. Navy will conduct Military Honors.
