Obituary

POUGHQUAG - William E. Harnish, Jr., 76, area resident since 1963 and formerly of the Bronx passed away at home with his family by his side on October 11, 2013 after a brave battle with esophageal cancer.

Born in the Bronx on September 1, 1937, he was the only child of William E. and Gladys Klepper Harnish. William was employed as a printer for the Foundation for Christian Living in Pawling for 25 years until his retirement in 1992. An avid Yankees and Rangers fan, he enjoyed fishing, photography and playing the guitar. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended many of their school and sporting events.

On October 13, 1956 in the Bronx, William married Carol Ann Macon who died on June 4, 2007. He is survived by his children, Theresa Browne of Pleasant Valley, William Harnish III of Cumming, GA, Geraldine and her husband Brian of Kaplan, LA, and Philip Harnish and his wife Julia of Lagrangeville; his grandchildren, William Harnish, IV, David Harnish, Steven and Victoria (Ennis) Browne, Heather (Browne) and Daniel Kinsley, Christina and Blaine David, Justin and April Beck, Jessica Harnish, PJ Harnish; his great-grandchildren, Steven Browne, III and Madelyn Kinsley; his cousin, Diane Simon and her children; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

A special heartfelt thanks goes out to Vassar Brothers Medical Center's 7th Floor South Circle staff, especially Carrie, Heather G., Heather M., Doris and Willie, for their outstanding care and support.

We would like to thank the following doctors from the Mid-Hudson Medical Group for their compassionate care both in and out of the hospital: Dr. Esther Lee, Dr. Thomas Weisel, Dr. Stuart Weinberger and Dr. Steven Helft.

We would also like to thank Dr. Harriet Sager, Palliative Care, for her compassion and support; Karen Burns and Hospice for helping us get Dad home and to our family and friends for their prayers, love and support during this difficult time.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 1pm at Beekman Cemetery, 21 Church St, Poughquag.
