Haubert
September 11, 1947 – April 14, 2026
POUGHQUAG - William John Haubert, 78, of Poughquag, died on April 14, 2026 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He previously lived in Montgomery and Parkchester (Bronx).
Born in the Bronx on September 11,1947, William was the son of the late William and Agnes (McGill) Haubert. He spent a care free childhood in Parkchester where he made lifelong friends. He attended St. Raymond's School, St. Helena's High School and later graduated from Adelphi University with honors. He was a Vietnam Veteran proudly serving in the US Army from 1967-1970 in the First Calvary Division earning a Purple Heart and receiving an honorable discharge as a sergeant. Throughout his life, William volunteered his time in helping fellow veterans and he was a member of the VFW.
For over 20 years, William continued his life of service working as Police Officer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey until his retirement in 1993. Immediately after the attacks of September 11th, William joined several of his fellow retired officers to form "Team Romeo" to assist in the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center. He later went on to work with the Red Cross, helping families affected by 9/11.
William was devoted to his faith and was a parishioner at St. Raymond's in the Bronx, Holy Name of Mary in Montgomery and most recently St. Kateri in Lagrangeville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Aquinas Council. Above all, William deeply loved his wife of 55 years, and the family they created together. He especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, spending many happy hours poolside and on the sidelines of soccer, baseball, and lacrosse fields cheering them on. He was a die-hard New York Yankee and New York Giants Fan. He loved his classic Mustang and Irish music.
He is survived by his loving wife, K. Jane (Brennan) Haubert at home; his children and their spouses, Sean and Mary Haubert of Hewlett and Sara Jane and Patrick Carr of Poughquag, his grandchildren, Timothy, Daniel, and Kathryn "Katie" Carr and Patrick and Sean Haubert; as well as his nieces and nephews, Amy Gardner (Tim), Beth Eagan (Patrick), Meg Wernau (Jason) and James Haubert, Katherine Heuring (Kevin) and William Haubert (Noreen).
