FISHKILL – William T. Melvin, a Fishkill resident since 1967 and formerly of Yonkers, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. He was 85.
Son of the late James A. and Mary (Keegan) Melvin, he was born in Yonkers on December 1, 1936. In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. William was honorably discharged as Sergeant in 1961.
He was a firefighter for the Yonkers Fire Department, retiring in 1982 after 20 years of service. William also worked for Arkawy Construction for 55 years maintaining facilities and grounds.
In 1961, he married Eleanor Agnano at St. Mary's of the Immaculate Conception Church in Yonkers. Eleanor survives at home in Fishkill.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Theresa Nelson & her husband John of Isle of Bute, Scotland; his son, William Melvin of Dunkirk, NY; his daughter, Debra DiMarco & her husband Nicholas of Poughkeepsie; his daughter, Karen Davé of Fremont, CA; his grandchildren, William Nelson, Ailsa Nelson, Nicholas DiMarco, Steven DiMarco, Siddharth Davé, and Shanthi Davé; his brother, Robert Melvin & his wife Sharon; as well as many other loving relatives & friends.
William was predeceased by his parents in addition to five brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 11 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 12 at the funeral home, followed by interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
