William A. Phillips, 55, a resident of Beacon for 2 years and formerly of Hillside Lake, died on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in White Plains on August 4, 1958, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Marilyn Conklin Phillips. Bill served in the US Navy and was employed by the Wappingers Central School District for 23 years until his retirement in 2013. He was a member of the Vineyard Community Church in Hopewell Junction where he was very involved in many of the church's ministries. He was also a devoted member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, and was involved with the KAIROS Prison Ministry. He loved music, comedy and vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland.
Bill was a selfless man, an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He was always there to help in whatever way he could. Whether you needed a ride, to use his truck or just someone to talk to, he was there. Always with words of encouragement, his generosity was endless. He followed his heart and his heart belonged to God.
Bill is survived by his sister, Nancy Cotter, niece Samantha Daniel, great-nephew Izaiah Gaither and his beloved dog Georgie with whom he made his home; his brother Douglas Phillips of Pleasant Valley; his sister Diane Phillips of Fishkill; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joe and Peg Minichiello of Brentwood California; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law Greg Cotter.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The service will be held on Wednesday at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Lou Federico officiating. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery with military honors.
