William E. Johnston, Sr., a local area resident of LaGrange for over 31 years, died at home with his loving wife at his side. He was 78. He previously lived in New Rochelle.

Son of the late Hugh and Margaret (Todd) Johnston, he was born in New Rochelle on December 8, 1944. After high school William enlisted in the Army, and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.

On May 20, 1979 at St. Anthony's Church in the Bronx, William married his soulmate Joan (Fields) Johnston. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary as a couple which he would proudly announce to everyone they encountered.

William worked for The County of Westchester at The New Rochelle wastewater treatment facility for 27 years. He retired from New Rochelle in 2010. He was currently employed at Allied Pollution Control in Patterson where he has worked for over 31 years.

William was always a get up early, be on time and conquered his day. His work ethic was impeccable. Hard working is an understatement. He enjoyed working for the Muro Family which he valued as much as his immediate family.

William was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed history. His main interest in history was the civil war. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, and he loved music.

He is also survived by his son, William Johnston Jr. of Savannah, GA; his daughter, Kate Johnston of Wappingers Falls, NY; and his beloved grandchildren Jacob, Michaela, Benjamin, and Gavin.
