William T. Weeks, 78, a 50 year resident of Dutchess County, died peacefully at home on Saturday, May 22, 2010 with family at his side.
Born on March 28, 1932 in Port Chester, he was the son of the late William and Mae Weeks. Dr. Weeks was a 1954 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Williams College and earned his Masters and Ph.D. degrees in theoretical physics in 1960 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Dr. Weeks joined IBM in 1960 and in 1968 was promoted to Senior Engineer. In 1984, he was promoted to Member of the Senior Technical Staff, an acknowledgment of expertise in his field. He was considered an expert on circuit analysis programs especially the ASTAP and the IMAC, was the creator of the inductance matrix, and published several papers in IEEE on microwave theory and practice. For his accomplishments, he earned several awards including the President's Award for Outstanding Technical Innovation for contributions to circuit analysis software. In 1993, he retired after 37 years of service with IBM.
Bill was one of the early members of the Family Skimeister Club (1971), serving as president for one year and participating in numerous club activities and ski trips over the years. A proud and delighted member of the 70+ ski club, Bill was an active skier until age 74 and enjoyed ski trips to the southeastern Alps, to the Canadian and American Rocky Mountains, and to the Italian Dolomites. His other interests included reading, history, traveling, scuba diving, and visiting with family and friends.
On June 27, 1954, Bill married Ann Armstrong at All Saints Episcopal Church in Harrison. He is survived by his wife, Ann; his daughter, Linda Balduyck Gatto and her husband Joseph Gatto of Stamford, CT; his son, James Weeks of Hopewell Junction; his granddaughters, Angela Mae Balduyck and Nicole Gatto; his beloved Aunt Jean; and his sisters-in-law, Joan King and Mimi Kearney and her husband Francis Kearney. He was predeceased by his son, Donald Weeks.
A memorial service will be held at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in the family plot at Verbank Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
