LAGRANGEVILLE – Janet K. Staats, 88, died on February 10, 2017 at the Elizabeth Manor. She previously lived in Poughkeepsie, Barrington, RI, and Albuquerque, NM.
Born on July 18, 1928 in Providence, RI, Janet was the daughter of the late Irving and Mildred (Ghodey) King. In June 1951, she married Robert W. Staats who predeceased her in 2015.

Janet was a member of the First Baptist Church of Poughkeepsie, and previously of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Foster, RI. She was also a member of Friends of LaGrange Library. As a free-lance writer, Janet’s articles were published in “Women’s Day”, “Family Circle”, and “Ladies Home Journal”. She also enjoyed sailing and reading.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, David K. and Jane Staats of Boise, ID, Martha J. and Scott Beswick of Audubon, NJ, and Roger R. and Erin Staats of Marlboro; her grandchildren, Rachel Staats of Boise, ID, Anne Staats of Boise, ID, Laure (Beswick) Toman of Seattle, WA, Brian Beswick of Audubon, NJ, Charlotte Staats od Marlboro, and Delaney McCormack of Marlboro; her nieces, Ginny Morgan, Janet Latham, and Carol Baker; her brother-in-law, Irving Staats; and her sister-in-law, Dottie Staats.

A graveside service will be held at Pocasset Cemetery in Cranston, RI at a later date. Donations may be made in Janet’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association. Please visit her Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
