Obituary for
Margaret Ann Pitera
Margaret “Peggy” Egan Pitera, 75, died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Hopewell Junction, NY, on March 13, 2017.
Born in New York City on February 15, 1942, she was the daughter of Frank and Margie Egan. Peggy had worked as an Administrative Assistant for National Distillers in Manhattan, as well as for the McDonnell Douglas Company in Elmsford.
Peggy loved her grandchildren more than anything in the world, and it meant so much to her that they were able to spend time with her and care for her. She also had a great love for candy, especially Junior Mints, York Peppermint Patties and Hershey's Kisses, and she kept a well-stocked candy box at each of her daughter’s homes. If you were especially good, she would share her sweets. Peggy had a great sense of humor. Her favorite TV show was Impractical Jokers. She had also amused her family with her eclectic taste in music - her playlist included Andrea Bocelli, Snoop Dog and Pit Bull. She also loved to travel the world, and lived all over the US, including NY, PA, VA, IA, AZ, CA and FL. With each move, she easily formed lifelong friendships. With her alluring good looks, she photographed beautifully. One of our favorite photos was when she was asked to represent National Distillers advertising “Old Crow Whiskey”. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.
Margaret is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Rita and Curt Schwartz of Parkland, FL, Colleen and Joseph Croce of Hopewell Junction, NY, and Christine and Joseph Magardino of Chappaqua, NY; her beloved grandchildren, Adam and Evan Schwartz, Joseph, Jonathan, Jenna, Jason, and Jordan Croce, and Joseph, Nicholas, Stefan and Cameron Magardino; her sister, Barbara Negro (who had been attentively by her side these past months); her brother, Joseph Nolan and his wife Lorraine; her niece and god daughter Monique Pecovic; niece and nephew Joseph Nolan and Laura Rosa and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and godchildren whom she loved with all her heart. She was especially grateful for the times she was able to spend over the past year with friends and cousins, Joan Ohrnberger and her daughter Kelly DePonto, and grandniece Maddie (who Peggy loved to watch perform Irish dance); her cousin and dear friend Pat Nolan; her god daughter/niece Ann Burt; cousins Mac and Dominic Montalto; cousins Johanna and Sal Gasparre; and lifelong friends, Joan Harstrick, June O’Sullivan and Marie Avery. Peggy had many more friendships than we could name. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Church of St. John & St. Mary in Chappaqua.
