Obituary for Frederick Johannes Sprenger

Frederick Johannes Sprenger
LAGRANGEVILLE – Frederick Johannes Sprenger, 88, an area resident since 1965, died on January 21, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He previously lived in Valley Stream, Long Island.

Born in Manhattan in 1929, he was the son of the late Frederick and Anna (Kowalewski) Sprenger. Fred graduated from the Samuel Gompers Trade School in the Bronx. He retired as an engineer in the early 1990’s after 25+ years of service with IBM in Poughkeepsie.

Fred married Margaret (Albinus) Sprenger on September 20, 1959 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Valley Stream. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Janet Muscat of Gardiner, Madeline Jewell and her husband Robert of Hyde Park, and Freddy James Sprenger of LaGrangeville; his grandchildren, Rachel Garcia and her husband Carlos, Gary Jewell, and Lindsey Jewell and her fiancé Shane Warden; his great-grandchildren, James Warden and Milena and Abigail Jewell; his brother, Alfred Alberts and his wife Patricia; his sister, Anna Jarvis; and many nieces and nephews.

Fred attended the Valley Bible Fellowship Church and volunteered at the Glory to God Food Pantry. He was an antique car and motorcycle enthusiast, and had owned many models over the years including a 1931 Ford Model A, a Volkswagen Thing, a BSA, a Kawasaki, and an Indian Chief previously owned by the police.

Fred was very tech savvy, and enjoyed watches, cameras, computers, and repairing jukeboxes. He was a self-taught organist, and tuned pianos. Fred will be remembered for his sense of humor, great stories, and infectious laugh.

Visitation will be held on Saturday at 2pm at the Valley Bible Fellowship Church, 1875 Clove Road, Lagrangeville followed by a Memorial Service at 3 pm at the church.

Donations may be made to the Glory to God Food Pantry or American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home. Please visit Fred’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
