Obituary for
Ann Theresa Ohlson
Ann Teresa Ohlson, 90, an area resident since 1958 and formerly of Brooklyn, died on August 16, 2018 at The Grand at River Valley.
Born in Brooklyn on June 14, 1928, she was the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Dempsey) Spinelli. On June 19, 1948 at St. Michael’s Church in Brooklyn, Ann married Arvid “Al” Ohlson who predeceased her on May 12, 2001.
Ann worked for many years as a waitress throughout the area including Moogs Farm and Fishkill Inn in Fishkill, and Seafood House in Cold Spring. Together with her husband, they owned and operated the Fishkill Grill for several years. She then worked at Castle Point VAMC for more than 20 years until her retirement at age 73. While at Castle Point, she was recognized for performing the Heimlich Maneuver and saving the life of a disabled Veteran.
Ann loved celebrating the holidays with her family and friends. No one could cook a turkey like Ann could. She was always dressed to the nines, and she never went anywhere without her red lipstick on. A woman of great spirit and independence, she will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
Ann was a parishioner of St. Columba Church and was a life member of the St. Denis/St. Columba/St. Kateri Altar Rosary Society. She loved taking summer trips to the Saratoga Racetrack with her family.
Ann is survived by her sons, Richard Ohlson and Robert Ohlson; her siblings, Gloria Malinowski and Joseph Spinelli Jr.; grandchildren, Caitlin, Kyle and John; and a great-granddaughter, Liliana.
